Highlights from Eth Denver: Wallet Con, Hackathon Prizes, and Bufficorn Ventures

Attending ETH Denver this past week was a truly transitional experience. As a second-year attendee, it was great to reconnect with my crypto friends from last year and see that they had all moved on to bigger and better things. The bull market chaos had subsided, allowing for genuine projects and builders to take center stage. As soon as I landed at the Denver airport, I was reunited with all my crypto besties.

Decentralized identity was a hot topic of discussion, and I believe it will be a significant initiative in 2023 as we focus on creating more secure and transparent systems. With all the crypto hacks this past year, it's becoming increasingly important to use self-custodial wallets and be strategic about on-chain transactions.

The Wallet Con hosted by Wallet Connect proved to be a huge success, showcasing various use cases for wallets and popular wallet brands also had a chance to get in front of new audiences. Additionally, the hackathon participants reportedly submitted over 500 bounty projects for a prize pool worth a total of over $2 million, with Ethereum launching Bufficorn Ventures and many individuals going home with grants. Congratulations to all the BluDAO hackers who participated in this year's competition. Fellow VV Contributor Katrina Morris hacked on the Create+ team as a full stack support.

Overall, ETH Denver's "Castle" got a major upgrade from the used car garage it was stationed at in previous years. The conference registered over 5700 people in the first day proving to be the biggest conference in the ethereum ecosystem. Many reported that there was a strong pet food stench throughout the hacker section in the basement of the venue, and the on-site makeshift "hostile" consisted of blowup beds with no blankets. And who can forget the free merch? The swag this year was top-tier and many dApps thought gate-keeping their pricey products would make them appear cool or at the very least win them more data for marketing. Newsflash: I have no more emails to give out! Still, we have a long way to go when it comes to hospitality, but at least the connections were amazing -- 50% were venture capitalists looking for the next 1Inch project.
